Letters to the Editor: Could Karen Bass and Rick Caruso form a ‘team of rivals’?
Karen Bass and Rick Caruso work for you, not against you. Their words are meant to make the city a better place.
If either woman were speaking today, instead of, or in addition to, “The Editorial,” she would be speaking truth to truth.
The same can be said of many of the people who work for the city.
I have been thinking a lot recently about the two candidates for city manager.
Karen Bass is a very talented person, a person who cares deeply about this city and has the ability to get things done and move the city forward.
People may not like how she runs the City of Seattle, but they must recognize that she is the best choice for the job of city manager.
I also believe Rick Caruso is a good choice for the city manager position.
He has a good personality, and he understands how to get the job done.
The other people running for city manager have some issues with the current city manager, John Diaz.
For example, they seem to be in denial that a city manager makes decisions based upon the vision of the city — and not how the money is being spent or the performance of the employee — and they’re willing to accept as a fact that the city manager is making a mistake or two (like when he didn’t follow through on a contract with Seattle police as he promised).
I think they’re also in denial that Diaz has run the City of Seattle to some degree for years without getting a better job than Diaz.
I think that, in general, the people running for the city manager position have a vision of what the city should be like and an attitude of, “What other choices are there?”
That attitude has gotten many of us into the situation we’re in today where we have a city manager who won’t deliver what was promised (some more than once), and we have a city manager who seems to have been chosen (or recruited or hired) because he is a good fundraiser.
