As a child, Mariah Carey was ‘like one of those kids who’s always been there’, she says – and, at just eight years old, she was sent off to church camp.
It was in the church camp that Carey first felt ‘the difference in my values and the values of my family’, she reveals, admitting that she made a bad choice as a child.

The eight-year-old, who grew up attending an ultra-Orthodox Jewish background, also confides that she had a bad experience at camp, during which she discovered what her friend had done to seduce her boyfriend.

After breaking up with her boyfriend, in her late teens Carey met her future husband, David Arquette.
‘I was like: “I can’t believe you broke up with me in the middle of my junior year. I got you tickets to the Jonas Brothers concert. Don’t tell them I tried to kill myself. Then you tell them I went to church-camp’ – – – and so she told him.
